The Turning Point

I started to ask deeper questions:

Why me? What really causes illness? How is my body responding differently from others? Could stress, emotional repression, or misalignment in life play a role?

That is why I started to do a lot of research on the causes of cancer, especially when there is no previous history in the family.

I started to notice the difference between myself, treatment, recovery, attitude and others. I started to explore myself and others and the environment. In the depths of treatment, I began to learn about complementary therapies. Yoga therapy, somatic practices and also psychology—not just as tools for recovery, but for health and solace.

In my case chemotherapy was extremely successful in reducing the tumour. Towards my last courses of radiotherapy, I was enrolled in a yoga course for a whole 6 weeks. During treatment, I discovered yoga not just as a form of movement but as medicine—something that reached places chemotherapy couldn’t. That month immersed in yoga philosophy, breath, stillness, and self-study were a turning point.

By the time that I finished my first yoga exam, I had rescued my arm from developing lymphoedema thanks to the hospital physiotherapist’s guidance and my yoga practice’s inner awareness. In searching for answers, I found something more powerful than certainty: a calling.

Yoga gave me language for what my body had been trying to tell me for years. It also gave me tools to care for myself, not only physically when I was doing my dance and fitness but also emotionally and spiritually. As I recovered, I began integrating therapeutic yoga into my classes. But I knew needed to go deeper. That Is when my research led me to learnt about the use of yoga as a therapeutic tool in healthcare settings, especially for cancer patients.
